Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre is a large, modern retail hub that is located just a stone’s throw away from the Yarra Eco Pty Ltd office in Forest Hill, Victoria. The site has been open for business since 1964 and is owned by Blackstone. Blackstone is one of the world’s largest private equity investment companies based in Manhattan, New York. Australia’s first Safeway store (now Woolworths) was opened on this site before several waves of expansion over the years led to the Mall we know today. The shopping centre, located in Melbourne’s east now is home to over 200 stores including three major grocery shops. There is also a large multi-storey car park on Canterbury Rd that can house over 3500 cars. Parking is free at Forest Hill Chase.
All of the usual players you might find at other large shopping centres are open for business at the Forest Hill retail hub including Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Target and many others. There are also more than 70 smaller specialist businesses including a Medical Centre, Chemist, Hairdressers and a Barbershop.
There is also a big Hoyts cinema attached to the shopping centre that opened in December 1989 on Boxing Day. The cinema opened with ten screens to replace the single-screen cinema that was located across the street called ‘Forest Hill Cinema’. The cinema opened in a fantastic era for movies showing ‘When Harry Met Sally’, ‘Back To The Future Part 2’ and ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’ on its opening day/night. The cinema has since been reduced down to 6 screens and has over 650 google reviews with a 4.4-star rating.
Of course, like most other modern shopping centres, there is a huge variety of options when it comes to eating out. Most, if not all of the cuisines from around the world are explored in the Forest Hill Chase restaurant scene, in fact too many to name! Probably our favourite place to eat is to grab some Greek street food from ENA. ENA, meaning number one in Greek, serve tasty meats that are slow-cooked over a coal fire pit on top of freshly baked bread and crisp salads. They pride themselves in only buying their ingredients from local, Victorian suppliers apart from the amazing selection of Greek wines that they serve!
Forest Hill Chase really does have all of the necessities but also all of the luxuries too. Whether you are simply buying this week’s groceries or looking for a gift for your loved one, you can’t go wrong. Grab what you need, grab a bite to eat and maybe catch a movie if you have time. Let us know you go with the Greek street food too!
